Medical Staff
Our medical staff consists of seven psychiatrists who have a total of nine board certifications. Our psychiatrists are experts in their field who provide compassionate care and design treatment to meet each individual’s specific needs.
Kim J. Masters, M.D. – Medical Director
Dr. Master received his undergraduate degree in English from Princeton University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his general psychiatry residency and child psychiatry fellowship at the University of California in San Diego.
Dr. Masters is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry and child psychiatry. He is a fellow of both the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the Association of Child Psychiatry and Psychology in Great Britain, and the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Masters is clinical assistant professor in the College of Health Professions MUSC, and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia since 2003. He is a representative of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to the professional training advisory committee (PTAC) of the Joint Commission since 2003. In the past two decades, Dr. Masters has presented over 70 lectures on aggressive management, dual diagnosis, DSM IV, child abuse and autism, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Dr. Masters has 16 publications, two tapes and a book, The Angry Child: Sleeping Giant or Paper Tiger. He was the senior author of “The Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s Practice Parameter on the Prevention of Aggressive Behavior in Psychiatric Facilities with a Focus on Seclusion and Restraint” and is part of the team updating the parameter. He also writes a column for the Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry News on seclusion and restraint prevention.
Cheryl Connor Dodds, M.D.
Cheryl Connor Dodds, M.D., received her undergraduate degree in English, graduating with high honors from Davidson College. She received a Fullerton scholarship and completed her medical training at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, S.C.
Dr. Dodds completed her residency in general psychiatry at William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, where she served as chief resident and was recognized as the Resident of the Year. She completed her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Palmetto Health.
Dr. Dodds is board-certified in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry. Her professional affiliations include the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
In addition to her duties as Medical Director, Dr. Dodds serves as the Service Director of Saluda Cove Residential Treatment Program at Three Rivers. Dr. Dodds also maintains a busy outpatient practice with Vista Psychiatric Consultants which encompasses child, adolescent and adult psychiatry and is located in West Columbia, S.C. Her areas of special interest are in treating patients with Asperger’s Disorder and eating disorders.
Mary Shealy Boyd, M.D.
Dr. Boyd received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of South Carolina. She completed her medical training at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2001, and completed an internship and residency training in general psychiatry at Palmetto Health Alliance.
She holds an appointment as a clinical instructor in the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in the department of neuropsychiatry. Dr. Boyd is board certified in general psychiatry and addictions. Her professional affiliations include the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association of Administrative Psychiatry.
Claire Jordan Hyde, M.D.
Dr. Hyde received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine at Orono in Latin and English. After teaching for ten years, she entered the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Medicine. She completed her residency in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, S.C.
After graduation, Dr. Hyde was employed by the Department of Mental Health at The Columbia Area Mental Health Center Assessment and Emergency Services Center as a staff physician. In this capacity Dr. Hyde also participated in the education of medical students and residents.
Dr. Hyde is board eligible in both general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
Timothy D. Malone, M.D.
Dr. Malone received his undergraduate degree in physics from the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., and completed his medical training at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and his residency in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, S.C.
Dr. Malone is board certified in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and certified in addiction medicine with ASAM. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, and the South Carolina Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Malone has been a clinical professor of psychology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine for five years and is a regional and national speaker on substance abuse, mood disorders and ADHD. He is the service director of the Intensive Outpatient Program at Three Rivers.
Jan Presberg, M.D.
Dr. Presberg received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in psychology and theater arts. She attended Harvard University for premedical education and received her medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. She then completed her residency in general psychiatry at the University of Virginia and her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University and at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Presberg’s experience crosses both the public and private sectors. Over the last decade she has practiced at local community mental health centers, universities and has a busy private practice. Dr. Presberg is board certified in adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Robert C. Schnackenberg, M.D.
Dr. Schnackenberg received his medical degree at the University of Michigan. He completed his internship and residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center as well as a child psychiatry fellowship at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
Dr. Schnackenberg is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association. He is a member of the American Medical Association, South Carolina Medical Association, American Society for Child Psychiatry Professors, American Society of Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Carolinas Society for Adolescent Psychiatry.
Since 1976 he has served as a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and received the first Chairman’s Award for his outstanding contributions to medical student education. He was awarded the Physician’s Recognition Award by the American Medical Association for his dedication to the health of America. He is past director and co-founder of the Day Treatment Center and director of the Child Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program at William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute. He has 18 publications, with 12 of the publications addressing the areas of Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity.
